Mid Mountains CrossFit hosted it’s first ever teens competition on Saturday December 3rd which JT’s Coconut Essence sponsored. The ‘Teens Throwdown’ was all about encouraging the younger generation of CrossFit athletes from the local area. CrossFit has really grown in popularity in recent years and lately has seen an influx of talented young athletes -so this was the perfect chance to showcase that talent.
The competition consisted of two workouts plus a strength test, designed specifically for their age and level. CrossFit is the ultimate test of all-round fitness, combining weightlifting with gymnastics and cardio. The workouts were challenging yet achievable and included a variety of movements including; running, kettlebell swings, box jumps, pull-ups, sit-ups, rowing and some barbell movements.
The event was a huge success and promoted some amazing camaraderie and social interaction amongst the teens. The teens not only gave it everything they had but also encouraged and supported their fellow athletes. The winners of the Male division were: 1st Jake Grieg, 2nd Lachlan Hibbard & 3rd Mackenzie Begg. The winners of the Female division were: 1st Mackenzie Crawford, 2nd Sarah Plumpton & 3rd Kelsey Bamford. A prize was also awarded to Chad Grieg for the ‘Spirit of the Comp’ and some other spot prizes for some fantastic achievements on the day.
JT’s Coconut Essence products were included in each of the place-getters prize bags and every competitor was stocked up with free coconut water when they registered.
The event received some fantastic local media coverage and feedback from all the teens, families and spectators. The organisers are hoping for the Teens Throwdown to become an annual competition and be even bigger and better next year!
